DEASHI HARAI

Forward Foot Sweep

Deashi Harai (or sometimes tanslated to Deashi Barai) is classified as Ashi Waza (Foot/Leg Technique).

To perform this technique correctly, you “force” your opponent to step forwards and then you sweep their advancing foot out from underneath them.

Timing is crucial (which is true of every throw), with your opponent being on the verge of placing his foot and most of his weight on the mat when you sweep it.

HIZA GURUMA

Knee Wheel

Hiza Guruma is classified as Ashi Waza (Foot/Leg Technique).

After breaking your opponents balance to the front corner, place your foot just below their knee cap, curling your toes around the side of the leg, and wheel your opponent over.

SASAE TSURIKOMI ASHI

Supporting Foot Lift-Pull Throw

Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi is classified as Ashi Waza (Foot/Leg Technique).

Break your opponents balance to the front corner, lifting throught the lapel and pulling through the sleeve.

Use your foot to block your opponents movement by placing on the front of the ankle, leaning backwards and twisting to finish the throw.

UKI GOSHI

Floating Hip Throw

Uki Goshi is classified as Koshi Waza (Hip Technique).

After breaking your oppnents balance to the front corner, grip them around the back and load them on to your hip.

To finish the throw, twist your hips, maintain a strong hold around the back and pull up on the sleeve.

OSOTO GARI

Large Outer Reap

Osoto Gari is classified as Ashi Waza (Foot/Leg Technique).

Break you opponents balance to the back corner, shifting all their weight onto the one leg and into the heel.

Bring your leg through and with a strong reaping action, attack the standing leg to finish the throw.

O GOSHI

Large Hip Throw

O Goshi is classified as Koshi Waza (Hip Technique).

Break your opponents balance directly forwards, grip them around the back and load them on to your hips, by bringing them across the front of your opponent.

To finish the throw, raise and twist your hips, maintain a strong hold around the back and pull up on the sleeve.

OUCHI GARI

Large Inner Reap

Ouchi Gari is classified as Ashi Waza (Foot/Leg Technique).

After breaking your opponents balance to the back corner, bring your leg in between your opponents and .

Bring your leg through and with a strong reaping action, attack the standing leg to finish the throw.

SEOI NAGE

Shoulder Throw

Seoi Nage (sometime called Morote Seoi Nage) is classified as Te Waza (Hand Technique).

Break your opponents balance directly to the front, drive your elbow into their arm pit as you turn around and load them on to your back.

To finish the throw, bend your body forwards and twist, driving through the armpit and pulling on the sleeve.
