Hane Goshi - Hip Spring

Hane Goshi is classified as Koshi Waza (Hip Technique) in Judo.

Hane Goshi involves breaking your opponent's balance to the front, loading them onto your hip and using your leg to spring them into the air and over onto their back.

Here's a basic breakdown of how Hane Goshi is typically executed:

  1. Grip: On the sleeve and high on the lapel.
  2. Kuzushi (Off-balance): Step in towards your opponent, placing both of your feet on their instep. Break their balance to the front as you do this, using the sleeve and lapel grip to draw them forwards.
  3. Entry: As you bring your opponent onto your hip, place your foot (left if throwing left and vice versa) on the inside of their leg, with your knee slightly bent and projected past your opponent's leg.
  4. Execution: To finish the throw, straighten your standing leg, and use a spring like action on the other leg and hip to throw your opponent over. The action of the hands, legs and hips must be well coordinated for the throw to work.

Hane Goshi requires precise timing, coordination, and proper use of leverage to be effective.
